Douglas Strachan's Stained Glass Windows |
Winchelsea Church, East Sussex.
Members planning visits to the coast - Rye , Hastings etc. - should take the opportunity to visit the Church of St Thomas the Martyr at Winchelsea, Here you can see the work of Dr Douglas Strachan (1875-1950) whose windows are an integral part of his great scheme of stained glass for the whole church.
Strachan was a well-known artist in stained glass. Amongst the windows he designed were ones for St Machar's Cathedral; King's College Chapel, Aberdeen ; the Palace of Peace at The Hague and the Scottish National war Memorial in Edinburgh Castle .
Allow plenty of time for Winchelsea - there is also the Ellen Terry Museum, delightful walks affording fabulous views, an Inn and the not to be missed Tea Rooms. |
