The 29th Scottish Glass Society Annual Exhibition |
18th August to 11th September 2008
The Peter Potter Gallery (Edinburgh) is hosting this year’s Scottish Glass Society Annual exhibition. The exhibition will mark the 29th Year since the society was formed. The event will open with a private view on Sunday the 17th of August.
The Exhibition will feature around 40 selected artists utilising a broad range of techniques: from cast, etched, engraved and blown glass through to leaded, stained and painted panels. Most of the work will be for sale and will be supported by an illustrated exhibition catalogue.
This show will embody and celebrate the society’s policy of inclusion and the representation of its glass artists at various stages of their careers. The result will be a stimulating, diverse and vibrant collection of glass art, which encompasses a broad range of techniques and applications by new graduates, by both emerging and well established glass designers, providing a flavour of the calibre and developments within the field of contemporary glassmaking in Scotland.

First Gather & Second Gather 2008 (West Midlands) |
17 May to 22 June 2008
This exhibition showcases work by graduate and non-graduate students from the Brierley Hill International Glass Centre. The glassmakers featured in the exhibition have studied glass techniques including stained glass, kiln working, fused and slumped glass, as well as hand-blown vases and bowls.
The glass on show includes work by by Laura Atkinson, Jennie Bayntun, Carol Blackburn, Dennis Brahm, Peter Fricker, Marva Laws, Grecia Martinez, Melissa Nicholls, Christina Nielsen, Peter Nyholm, Mark Randen, Carolyn Bailey, Tim Boswell, Clare Cave, Christina Kalliri and various others.

British Glass Biennale 2008 (Stourbridge, West Midlands) |

The British Glass Biennale will be held at the Ruskin Glass Centre as part of this year's International Festival Of Glass. Innovation and Inspiration: The Richardson Bequest
8 March - 10 August
Known for their pioneering use of colour and ground-breaking techniques, such as etching and threading, the Richardson family ran the Wordsley Flint Glassworks for 100 years.
In 1952 Benjamin Richardson III bequeathed his collection of glass to Stourbridge Town Council for inclusion in their new public glass collection displayed in the Council House in Mary Stevens Park. This exhibition will see the Richardson Bequest displayed in almost all its entirety for the first time in 25 years.

Michael Harris: Studio Pioneer
16 August - 25 January 2009
A leading figure in the international studio glass movement, Michael Harris (b.1933 - d.1994) first came into contact with glass as a student at Stourbridge College in the early 1950s. From there he went on to study and then teach glass design at the Royal College of Art in London. Forty years ago Harris founded Mdina Glass on the island of Malta and then a few years later established Isle of Wight Glass. His creativity combined with commercial awareness resulted in many successful ranges and today Isle of Wight Glass is still run by his family.
This exhibition and associated events are part of the International Festival of Glass.
