Chinese Gordon Decanters |
Two typical late 19th century claret decanters or ewers were sold at auction at Sotheby's in London in May 2005 for a total of just over £6,000. Simply engraved with Chinese characters accompanying an English heraldic crest, these vessels proved to have a complex story connected with them which goes far beyond their relatively unadorned appearance.
